Journal: Religions in Education:
A celebratory book Ed. Angela Wood
Acknowledgements: The editor, Angela Wood,
would like to thank those members of the Shap Working Party who
have supported the that they may meet production of this volume
and she especially appreciates the enthusiasm of Brian Gates and
Robert Jackson. Revisiting oneself is not easy and many thanks
are extended to the authors for their willingness to turn a searching
eye over their original work and amend or update it. Much significance
is given to the artwork and the editor is grateful to many authors
and Shap Working Party members who reacted to the original drafts
and scrutinised the final versions.
The creativity and sensitivity of Karena Smith is evident in
her art work but equally cherished is her respect for religious
traditions and the patience and understanding she showed in attempting
to reconcile frequently contradictory pieces of advice! The editor
warmly values the editorial committee of Vida Barnett, Cherry
Gould and Peggy Morgan. Their help in the selection of articles
and their good counsel on several occasions was of great benefit.
She will treasure the memory of late night phone calls, indoor
picnics and hurried consultations in the backs of taxis. . . even
when this volume is in its nth edition.
It is delightful for Shap to be associated again with the RE
Centre at Borough Road and this book owes much to the friendship
and careful attention of Ken Oldfield, the Director of the BFSS
National RE Centre, and Simon Potter, their Resources Officer.
For their faith in the editor — or at least for their ability
to live with doubt! — they are to be praised.
